What are we building?
Last November we demolished the Church Hall that had been standing next to St. John’s Church for over 80 years.  Now we are building a new Church Centre on the same site.   The work began in mid-May 2011 and is due to take just under a year, we hope it will be finished by next Easter if everything runs smoothly.    See the latest updates on the progress of the project.

Why are we doing this?
The old hall had served the church and the local community well for a long time but was really showing its age and needed a lot of work doing on it.   Not only that but as the church has grown it had become too small for the things we are doing now, and meant we couldn’t do anything new either.   As a church we would like to expand some of the things we do now, and start some new things too. Until this project is finished we can’t do either of those as we don’t have good enough facilities to run them.

What will it look like?
Well, that’s the big question and you can see the drawings by clicking below!

What difference will the new Centre make?
The biggest difference is that instead of being a hall that is open when an event is taking place, the new centre will be open all week during the day.   There is going to be a church office in the building, making it the main point of contact for the church and our local community.    Not only that but the new kitchen will mean we have cafe facilities available on the site.  This will mean we have somewhere for people to meet up and spend time together, as well as the chance for our groups to run events that involve good coffee and good food!  The building will also be bigger and laid out differently so that instead of having one group on site at a time, up to four different events could be happening at once, meaning there will just be more going on.

Where has the money come from?
Within the church itself.  The money isn’t from a lottery grant or winner!  It’s from individuals within the church congregation who have given their own money to make this happen.
